Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Kolkata Police have filed a case under charges of rape and murder following the tragic incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Today, during a press conference, Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal confirmed that the case has been registered, and an accused named Sanjay Roy has already been arrested. The Commissioner also addressed growing calls for a CBI investigation, stating that the Kolkata Police have no objections if the victim's family prefers another agency to take over the probe.
Mayor and Commissioner Goyal emphasized the transparency of the ongoing investigation, highlighting that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to handle the case. The police ensured that appropriate witnesses and family members were present throughout crucial procedures, including the recovery of the victim's body and the post-mortem examination. The investigation continues, with the police also exploring whether a gang-rape occurred or if additional individuals were involved in the crime.
